“TRANSDUCERS!”

BERLIN – LONDON – WIEN

Europ?ischer Film trifft auf Elektronische Musik
Am 12. Februar im Tresor! (German version)

(link zu aktuellen New York Times Artikel ?ber Bruno S. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/25/arts/design/25abroad.html?_r=1)

(link http://www.thinksyncfilms.com/)

WHO IS JONTY SKRUFFF ?

We have been getting messages asking who he is… so we thought it’s time to feature him.

Check out his latest DJ Mix! (Click line below)

Jonty Skruff DJ Mix OCTOBER 2008

We’ll have to point though that you have to experience him in a club situation. The way the bass frequencies work on your brain and stomach. MP3 format hardly gets across what it feels like in the clubs. But we trust your imagination…close your eyes…..and you’ll know….we are loving this mix….

This is how Jonty is described in his bio:

Jonty plays dirty rocking, bass-heavy electro-tech, mixing together electro, techno, hip hop and rock into a seamless stew of high-energy alternative, cutting edge dance music.

Check his myspace for remixes, upcoming dates and more:

http://www.myspace.com/djjontyskrufff

4 years after launching his DJ career at ultra-fashionable London club Golf Sale (aka Boombox) Jonty Skrufff has firmly established himself on the international alternative electro circuit, headlining underground clubs, festivals and superclubs in twenty-one countries so far.

Picking up prestige repeat bookings everywhere from Pacha Ibiza and Judgement Sunday (Ibiza), to Serbia’s Exit Festival and Czech Republic’s Summer Of Love festival, he’s also toured Brazil four times
(spinning regularly at D-Edge, Vegas and mad tranny institution A Loca) as well as enjoying a high profile tour of China last Christmas.

The 9 gig trip included performances in front of 2,000 revellers at both G Plus superclubs (in Shanghai and Hangzhou) plus an exclusive set before 6,000 Chinese people in Beijing on New Years Eve. The Coca
Cola backed party was Beijing’s first ever official (Western) New Year’s Eve outdoor event and Jonty was the only non-Chinese performer at the high profile event.

Elsewhere, he’s played Japan (Club Ageha), Lithuania, Bahrain, Israel, Ukraine, Hong Kong, Thailand, France, Spain, Holland, Norway, Dubai, Czech Republic and the Balkans (Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia) though still plays most frequently in London and Berlin (where he now mainly bases himself when not travelling).

In Berlin, he’s a regular guest at acclaimed trash, rock-electro queercore party Neon Raiders and has also headlined Berlin’s mighty Tresor a number of times after being invited to DJ at the legendary club’s grand re-opening in May 2007.

Spinning alongside fellow Skrufff DJ Fidelity Kastrow, the duo played a joint seven-hour set in the club’s experimental room and made such an impression that Tresor invited them back immediately (to play the very next night)

“At the opening night parties back In May, Batterieraum fans didn’t know what hit them when the dirty rocking bass heavy electro-tech spins by UK’s Jonty Skrufff met the sex-soaked electro style of
Berlin’s Fidelity Kastrow,” said Tresor in their newsletter following the gigs, “These were sparks to remember.”

Back in London, he plays regularly at the capital’s coolest cutting edge clubs, with upcoming gigs include Gutter Slut, Calling All Tribes and Naked Zoo @ Egg (plus an imminent return to Pacha London).

As well as DJing, he also continues to produce and present the Skrufff Show on Ministry Of Sound Radio, as well as publishing his hugely acclaimed weekly sex-drugs-clubs & politics e-zine Skrufff-E
(available at http://www.skrufff.com http://www.skrufff.com).

He’s also now actively involved in making music, co-producing and remixing Fidelity Kastrow’s upcoming single 21st Century Girl and Trainwreck with Radio 1 star Judge Jules, with more productions and releases to follow imminently.

For DJ bookings and more information, please contact Jonty direct at jonty@skrufff.com or email Mark Reeder (mark@mfs-berlin.de ) or Nina Morgenstern @
Promoter Endorsements:

“Thanks for playing at Judgement Sunday, Jonty, It’ll definitely be a repeat performance(s)- there’s been lots of good feedback about your set.”

Judge Jules, Judgement Sunday, Ibiza

“For your absolutely fuckin’ great performance at Exit I have to say only this: Jonty is a prophet from the future and he KNOWS where electro music goes! He takes us there! And now I’m a believer!”"

Predrag Nikolic, Exit Festival (Electrana Stage Organiser), Serbia

“Skrufff (that’s 3 F’s people) has been playing for me since my first ever gig at a small intimate bar in East London many moons ago and he has been a firm favourite ever since. From The Cross to The Key and
now Pacha and 4 years later he’s still destroying the dancefloor week in week out! Legend… although he could do with a haircut!”

James Clent, Pacha London

“Incredible, fantastic, amazing… I don’t know how to express the energy of Jonty Skrufff’s DJ set. His rocking electro-disco-tech simply rocks!!!! and makes people dance all night. They all did in Roxy and O2 club in Prague, Czech Republic. We want Jonty back soon!”

Michal Walterstein, Roxy Prague PR Director, Czech Republic,

“You did an awesome job at Volar. Thanks for putting your heart into it.”
Jaime Ho, Promoter, Club Volar, Hong Kong

“Thank you! It was a great party! We really enjoyed your dirty punking rocking electro set and we also received only positive feedback from the crowd! Let’s Go Punk’s absinthe party has now changed into a tour
where we take the concept forwards. We’re going to meet again soon!”

Gregor Zavcer, Supreme FM and Absinthe Supreme.

“You and Fidelity Kastrow were just great, everybody’s still talking about it. Your set moved even the stones in the fortress. Nothing’s gonna’ be the same again in this city.”

Neofest International Peace Festival, Banja Luka, Bosnia

?I think it brings a lot of creative potential for the music industry, not just for the club. It has already proved its potential in museums and in cinemas and this is an experiment in a club. It?s new technology but I think it?s a start and I am happy that it takes place at Tresor.?

Dimitri Hagemann, owner of legendary Berlin techno club Tresor, is talking about IOSONO, a system being touted as the next big thing in audio technology and which saw its world club debut at Tresor last week as one of the few highlights of the Popkomm trade fair.

IOSONO is based on the concept of Wave Field Synthesis and is able to recreate natural sound waves as opposed to merely amplifying sound. Another innovation is the way in which sound is dispered within the club room. DJs use multiple audio sources in conjunction with a multitude of speakers ? in Tresor?s case, 800 ? with which they can position and move sounds to create a much more textured, 3D sound landscape. Gerald Moser, Business Development Manager for IOSONO, explains:

?In our case DJs open up their creative workspace by adding new sound sources. For example they use four CD players; two in a simple way creating their main mix and use the other two to play new sources into the system,? he said, ?We developed a new tool for the club experience which we call the IOSONO Multi-touch DJ Live Interface and it consists of a touch screen on which the artist just touches the sound sources and moves them on the screen which moves them in real time across the dance floor.

They can feed each single track of their production into the system and can switch it on, switch it off, move it around, use certain filters on it, and use everything separated as opposed to a usual stereo set-up where everything just comes out of two speakers.?

Four CD sources, six server PCs and around 800 speakers have all been installed for the system?s debut at Tresor and although the system is already in use in a limited number of locations ? the Haunted Mansion at Florida?s Disneyland being one of them ? this is the first time it?s been pressed into service in a club. Karlheinz Brandenburg, the man who gave the world the mp3, is also the brains behind IOSONO and was especially pleased to see his system used in this way.

?For me the basic idea in fact has been a dream for a long, long time. When we speak of hi-fidelity it?s two parts; it?s cleanliness of sound and it?s really immersion, the idea of being somewhere else. With Wave Field Synthesis this dream really became true. And I think it?s the next big thing in audio.?

The assembled crowd were then ushered into the centre of the dancefloor where surrounded by the newly-installed speaker system. It was not uncommon to see heads turning as people looked to locate the sound they?d just heard. Afterwards, the DJs took to the stage to show how IOSONO can be used as a means to build on the concept of the traditional DJ set. In addition to the basic mix were a number of additional sound effects and filters, all controlled via the touch-screen console behind the decks. Certain elements of the tracks were then keyed into the room from different locations ? After introductions from the IOSONO team, guests were treated to a jungle-themed presentation where animal sounds and the noise of rain appeared to move around the room. basslines appeared to throb overhead, breaks and beats shot from one side of the dancefloor to another, electro clicks and pops rippled through the room before shooting to the opposite side.

One of the DJs headlining the evening was Berliner Fidelity Kastrow; she?s played some of the hottest dancefloors throughout Europe and North America and certainly knows the difference between a good and a bad PA. She was definitely won over by IOSONO after her debut DJ set on the system:

?It?s amazing. It?s just really mind-blowing. You just get so many ideas of things you want to prepare and how you want to change making tracks. I think it?s just really amazing,? she enthused after her debut DJ set on the system, ? It?s challenging but it?s very intuitive but I am just in the real beginner, baby steps of learning what the system can do for DJs. It?s still a work in progress. It?s not done, it?s just beginning to develop.?

The reaction to the new system was also enthusiastic from the clubbers present:

?IOSONO is great. I never saw it before. It?s cool. I tried to grab some sounds but they were too fast!?

?I was surprised because there isn?t just one point where the sound is coming from, it?s everywhere and I don?t have to go away because it?s too hard. I have no problems with my ears because a lot of people have the experience that after a party my ears are destroyed, that?s not the problem with this sound.?

?I thought that it was a very impressive system. It has a lot of features. It?s kind of hard to tell what it?s going to become but it has a lot of potential for certain people.?

?I thought it was fantastic. I thought that Berghain was the top sound system here in Berlin but after listening to this it just blew my mind. A total surround sound experience; close your eyes, listen to the full effect of it and just go with the music!?

So clubbers and DJs alike seem to be won over by this revolutionary new approach to audio presentation and with the system due to be fine-tuned over the next few weeks, IOSONO at Tresor could really set the standard for a completely new clubbing experience. But with such a hefty price tag it?s unlikely that many venues will be able to afford it. Time will tell then if this really does develop into the Next Big Thing.

Jonty Skrufff & Fidelity Kastrow Introduce IOSONO @ Tresor (Thursday
October 9)

Brand new 3D sound system manufacturers IOSONO are introducing their
256 channel/ 700 speaker audio system at Tresor next Thursday (October
7) with a Grand Opening Gala featuring performances from Jewgeni
Birkhoff, Hauko Leix, Stewart Walker, Fidelity Kastrow and Jonty
Skrufff.

The Gala evening takes place in the middle of Berlin?s Popkomm Music
conference when tens of thousands of industry people and clubbers
congregate at parties throughout the city and kicks off at Tresor at
10pm with presentations and demonstrations from the |OSONO creatives
(doors open 9pm) followed by DJ sets from 10.30pm.

Skrufff mainman Jonty said he?s excited about trying out the new rig
at Tresor.

?Fidelity Kastrow and I had a practise on the IOSONO system at their
headquarters in Erfurt last week and were both blown away by the
system?s potential,? he said.

?You?re able to physically direct and control sound effects and
acapellas and deliver them to specific spots on the dance-floor, at
will, which offers amazing possibilities for better interaction with
the audience as well as immersing clubbers genuinely inside the music.?

?I?m also particularly looking forward to having a go on the system
now it?s installed at Tresor as the club?s Batterieraum is such a
great space to play in already, having been purpose built by people
who clearly understand perfectly the dynamics of a dancefloor.?

?Another hugely exciting aspect about IOSONO is the possibilities it
opens up for production. We?re currently locked up in the studio
deconstructing the new tracks we?ve made for Popkomm to make them as
IOSONO friendly as possible,? he added.

?Hopefully we?ll be able to provide a genuinely new listening
experience for Tresor clubbers on Thursday.?

IOSONO?s Grand Opening Gala is on Thursday October 9 at Tresor: doors
open at 9pm: admission is free (for guest list speedy admission,
please email jonty@skrufff.com)
