Very often the focus is mostly on Iggy, but the guitars were equally important to the vocals.

So many other sites will write enough about this, so we don’t repeat what they are already saying, but we want to raise a theory: Was his sound probably the only guitar sound which inspired so many electronic musicians?

We can easily build a bridge from early 70ties Stooges to Suicide and then into anything good electro these days.

While music journalists in Germany are wondering what happened to pop music (yes, we said it years ago. In a globalized economy national pop music is becoming less relevant every year. Music , after all, is not that different to the rest of the economy.) , we continue our path into the future.

Just got back from Portugal, crazy New Years Eve rave with 2000+ kids going mental (we know this term is totally British and a taboo term in modern Indie music, that’s why it has to be used again from now on. Creds to Garagem to make it happen!). Hardcore, hardcore hardcore. Drug music, dangerous and without any context to what we used to call western pop music.

People are angry, that’s why.

Gone is the decade of whiny upper class kids who pay their way into the music scene (because nobody else can afford it any longer). People feel and know that middle and working class have been pushed down by the super rich over the past decade, and now the dream of the rising working class rock’n'roll band has been lost…maybe forever.

(Remember, mostly, these images were marketing campaigns to sell a “product” to us. “These guys are like you, now go buy it.” We were never into buying music that reminds us of our neighbors…why? Because we hate them as much as they hate us.)

Now is the time for a new underground to emerge. NOW!

We want music which is exciting, thrilling, passionate, dangerous and unpredictable. The minds of the new generation are open and ready for change. It won’t happen in one day, but the door is open and it will stay open… for a while.

Those who sit back, those who are passive and expect corporations to deliver everything to them, will be left behind.

The new listener is active, is searching the internet for new music, the new listener is questioning any written information about music (yes, you, you journalists who have become the little finger of the corporates. You lost your integrity, once lost, no way to get it back…that’s part of the game.), the new listener is making up his/her own mind, creating his/her own taste. The new listener is thinking, because knowledge and ideas are gold in this era.

The old way of capitalism has failed. Even many conservatives are waking up now. In Paris we have seen more burning cars on New Years Eve than ever before.

We don’t need guns, our weapon is the mind…and we are ready to riot at any time.

I don’t need to say that our solidarity is with those who supported, lost and loved Alexandros Grigoropoulos.
(I didn’t want to say anything right away, because too many bands try to sell something on the back of those tragedies. And I hate that. But we received so many emails asking where we stand, I wanted to get it out. This is where we stand!)

The super rich are not paying taxes, why does the police protect them? They should protect the people. Us.

In 2008 we started and finished many new things : New music, films scores and more.

Regarding NIN music used at Guantanamo Bay for torture

It’s difficult for me to imagine anything more profoundly insulting, demeaning and enraging than discovering music you’ve put your heart and soul into creating has been used for purposes of torture.
If there are any legal options that can be realistically taken they will be aggressively pursued, with any potential monetary gains donated to human rights charities.
Thank GOD this country has appeared to side with reason and we can put the Bush administration’s reign of power, greed, lawlessness and madness behind us.

RJDJ IN BERLIN FRIDAY 12TH!!!!!

We assume you already know or at least heard of RJDJ for the iPhone. Like so many apps it’s hard to explain (no. it’s easy to explain), what we are trying to say is that until you experienced it, it’s hard to imagine.

Most apps are just fun…not more not less…but we shouldn’t underestimate the fun factor…because it can be a lot of fun!

You know that feeling you sit in the subway, underground, U-bahn or whatever, meaning you are caged in with other human beings that you want to be as far away from as possible. And you feel hate, controlled, depressed and you are trying to reach your inner self, go deeper into it to not go crazy. In these moments I always wanted to manipulate and change reality instead of just accepting it (or letting it out on other people).

RJDJ does exactly that! You can choose different settings and it puts effects onto anything audio around you.

I know this doesn’t sound completely convincing, but it is funny…I once got asked for my passport by some cop and his voice spoke in that mickey mouse voice to me, and even though I kept my Alec face (no expression at all) on, I was laughing so hard…

The thing as developed by Michael Breidenbrücker. Since then they have been doing these kind of sessions called sprints, you can learn about how to program your own settings and more. The next sprint is in Berlin.

‘extrajetzt®’ hat sich ‘Snake’, dem Dinosaurier aus den 80zigern gewidmet und daraus
ein gesellschaftliches Ereignis programmiert. Mit Hilfe der Bluetooth Technologie wird
es 7 Spielern per Handy ermöglicht, gleichzeitig eine Schlage auf einem Public Display
zu bewegen. Gewinner ist, wer am meisten frisst und somit seine Schlange wachsen

A CONVERSATION IN BERLIN BETWEEN MARK STEWART AND ALEC EMPIRE

Alec: “Hey Mark…..I kind of feel that there is so much that should be said in lyrics these days, and I keep wondering why nobody really says anything.

Sometimes when I drink my orange juice in the morning I can get deeply depressed about the current state of the music scene. Which is silly I know but it keeps happening. This theory keeps popping up in my head that if there was a concentration camp in Oranienburg (city next to Berlin), the music scene would be exactly the same as it is now. It’s not even like majority of music is expressing anything deep which words can’t say… How do you feel about that? Your lyrics stood the test of time. A lot of stuff you said 20 years ago, still seems to make so much sense. What is worse…people not listening or artists not saying anything?”

Mark: “For me berlin is a hungry ghost of the city in the 20s a time of political upheaval/economic meltdown i havent seen so much decadence since the fall of rome!”

Alec: “Decadent? I feel like waiting for a train when I am in Berlin…waiting with a bunch of people who can’t get a job. Which part of Berlin you see as decadent? Can you give me an example? I was born here so I wear my pink Nu Rave shades….”

Mark: “Taste is a form of personal censorship?”

Alec: “It depends. I see it more as a filter. But I guess you are right that for many people taste is something they copy from others to belong to a larger group. The question is if that is still „taste“. I am shocked about the fact that most people don’t even feel the need to develop something that could be described as taste. In the elections , is it about „taste“ at the end? Do people consume the politicians, like they do with „entertainers“?”

Every time I am in the UK and I play a Japanese record to somebody, I get this pale wimpy face expression back. yes, fuck Fireman and Last Shadow Puppets and all that shit.

What would you change?” Of course I never even reply to that, because I am not angry per se, actually I have moments of the Jesus Christ mood when I could just hug everybody on this planet and I imagine driving in a Porsche with Korn, those guys from around the corner here in Kreuzberg who talk the Taliban talk, Kathleen Hanna, The Cramps and Ex-chancelor Schröder …and we are all going on holiday, singing a song in the car, and we are about to cross the border to Poland and shit….so, yes, I sometimes love this world. but if I oculd get my hands onto the education system I would get teachers to teach this album to children age 9.

Deal with your anger, it’s ok to confront your aggression, deal with it, make it your friend…do not swallow it down….don’t pretend smiling. Waiters in Berlin are not rude, they are alive because they don’t fake it.

At some point when the American hardcore scene started evolving backwards and make it a business, got t-shirt and merch “entrepreneurs” they lost it (same with Hip Hop by the way)…they lost the reason to exist in this world. That was the moment when I turned to Japanese punkrock.

Many people say those guys over there just imitate western music. Well, they don’t know what they’re talking about. These times are long gone (if they ever existed - I doubt that anyway). The bands over there are huge fans of music, they analyse it, they know how to play it, they find their own way of saying the things that need saying.

Just look at the titles here…“British Bulldog”, “Leather face”, “Never Win” and “Crazy Mom”….UK rock bands could shoot as much heroin as they want they would still not come up with song titles like these…British bands have song titles like “tape song” or “love deserter” or “Midnight surprise” - I am fucking falling asleep… the best thing about Berlin is when you are at a minimal techno club night and people joke at the bar about UK bands who talk with their high pitch Russel Brand voices how much rock’n'roll they are…it’s like their parents tought them that…or wait, they went to Paul McCartney’s music school and learnt songs from the white album….

So those Japanese bands they close themselves off the rest of the world, because they don’t care. When I am on tour I love understanding the other countries…this is the real reason why I would go out and play there. When you play music you can connect with people on a different level and you can absorb much more this way.

New century rock’n'roll has this “proud to be dumb” mentality while when I listen to Television (yes, not my generation…way before me) or Nico’s camera obscura, I feel that they were smarter than the rest of the society. they knew stuff most of us don’t or will never find out. They were looking at the goldfish instead of being the goldfish.

Midweek…Wednesday…December 3rd. I made a list and I figured…I know more good stuff than bad by now….I have won. Amazing feeling.
