PATRICK WOLF RIOT ON STAGE IN COLOGNE AT C/O POP FESTIVAL
This was filmed at C/O Pop Festival in Cologne, Germany, last night. What’s up with stage managers just taking the power to cut an artist short during a performance? People pay money to see the musicians, not to get in sync with stupid time tables that were planned wrong in the first place.
It’s time festivals think about MUSIC again and not sponsorship and respect all musicians who bring in the people at the end.

His performance was not “cut short” because of “sponsors” but because of a public curfew. And ignoring the curfew would mean serious trouble for the festival.

well they didn’t need to move the show outdoors in the first place!
if they had just kept it in the opernterrassen instead of making it an open-air show he could have played as long as he wants.
it was just one fucking song that was missing from his set. i doubt that there would have been many complaints if he played until 10.04pm instead of finishing his set at 10.00pm

Patrick should have been allowed to play on. The crowd wanted more to hear more. The music is so good to.

Well who knows. German authorities can be quite bitchy. In any case, a little more maturity on PWs part wouldn’t have hurt.

If it was maturity that was wanted, then the organizers should have asked Leonard Cohen. I suspect they actually wanted an artist with some pith and fire; they just didn’t want that pith and fire turned on themselves. Any artist would have responded in a similar way. Turning off the sound system is like a red rag to a bull, innit? It’s just a shame that that response is so de rigeur.

yes, it is really bad when you (as the artist) have build up all your energy towards the end of the show (which usually should be the best moment…not according to indie fucks though haha) and then someone just pulls your plug. It feels like that person punches you in the face…it is hard to imagine for someone who has never been on a stage…
the bad thing is that this energy will find its way in that moment, and this is usually either directed against the person who played the powergame or against yourself…
it is also disrespectful to the audience…they have waited for the finale of their favorite act, and then this… to me it really reflects a new attitude from some promoters who don’t care anymore about the actual show itself, they just see a schedule, ticket sales and artists who are so dependent on live work because there is literally no income from recorded material anymore….
another important point…the piracy system has given promoters too much power…I believe if the system is balanced in a better way, everybody wins…but many fans really start to feel ripped off by the festivals lately… it’s sad…
I try to stay away from that at the moment…Fusion Festival and Klangbad is so musician friendly…it really creates a great vibe for the shows…to me this is the future…

I abhor festivals. They’ve become so commercial over the past two decades … ugh! They care way too much for money and less and less for the artists or the music.
This example just shows the complete lack of respect, like someone else said going over by four minutes would not have been a problem.
Gah! this kind of thing makes me sick.

I understand he was pissed off, but to throw things towards that “bitch” again and again and again wasn’t necessary. Or if he was that mad, he should have walked right up to her instead of leaving the stage on the opposite side. WTF, man? As far as I know, PW apoloized later on his myspace, saying he was aiming at the black hole there (= imaginary “bitch”) and didn’t mean to hit anyone and if he did, he’s sorry and so on. As I said, I understand he was pissed off and tired and fuck knows what, but he came off like a neurotic teenager… to me that is.
