JULY 25TH: DJ SPOOKY “SUPPORT DEMOCRACY IN IRAN”
Hey People – this July 25, there’s an amazing series of events to support democracy in Iran.
July 24th, 2009
This is a song I did with the Iranian singer, Sussan Deyhim, which will be presented as part of the protest situation – we’re presenting it with United 4 Iran. The poem is based on a work by the poet Rumi from several centuries ago, but it still resonates with today’s geopolitics – it’s in Farsi, but for English speakers, there will be a translation posted.
In conjunction with United 4 Iran, a group of political activists, artists, writers, and musicians have organized a global protest in conjunction with many other movements. If you have a moment, please check out the material, and organize a local event to support the people of Iran.
and check out the situation:
Join this unprecedented wave of global citizen activism for the people of Iran. On July 25, participate in an event in one of more than 50 cities around the world
http://united4iran.org/locationsI’m in a remote area of the planet, but am trying to get word out. We did the video over the last couple of days via remote edting. Already U2 and many other musicians and artists have joined. For example, U2 is projecting the lyrics of the song during their concerts… Please spread word!
in peace,
Paul aka Dj Spooky
Topic:did you know that ?, everything is politics, just cool, strong mind

Hi, Alec do you really belive that, if they change a president will be better? I think maybe.. but for me it’s still one motherfucker who wants power, and others, simple people are still being a slaves… Mayby it’s one, first step to real democracy, but i think, that they all thinks ‘if we choose Musawi we will be free, and we woudnt do anything…’ of course, i’m impressed of these people, they are fighting for ‘freedom’ and they diyng for freedom.. but i’m sad beacouse they could use this energy to build new society, free society.. maybe anarchist society or something like that…
greetings
sory for my mistakes..

^^ Unfortunately what’s going on in Iran right now is much too much for one man to change overnight, much like the USA and everyone expecting Obama to save the world. That being said the Iranian peoples open support for Mousavi is a positive step towards change (yes, I hate throwing that word around! but ugh I can’t think of anything more appropriate) and shows a willingness and readiness for something seemingly better than what they are currently living with.
Hopefully further down the line something that is beyond democracy will begin to emerge but with thousands of years of oppression behind them I think that Iran and the middle east still has a long way to go.
Hell, we’re still struggling in the west … I think we all have a long way to go.
