To me personally “Control drug” is good in musical meaning, however very similar to “If you live or die”…
I prefere Atari Teenage Riot’s “Kids are united” for example, but I guess Alec is still very connected to his inner darker side…
I am not here to judge, these are mine personal opinions…

NME also totally shat on the new Kap Bambino CD so I’m still a long way off from taking its reviews as gospel. And after all we don’t really need the mainstream press to tell us what’s good now do we ?
Still it’s good news that Alec is getting some recognition and publicity.

I am so depressed. I am not digging Shivers or the new sound. What the fuck man. At one point the track Shivers reminds me of the Doobie Brothers. Then if you sing Shivers with a Frank Sinatra accent it is laughable. Baby Skulls reminds me of Prince. How people are saying this is Alec’s best work compared to what? Come on man. It’s like Control Drug is a cruel tease and is a 76.5% watered down DHR sound and the rest is Rave House music, my worst nightmare. Yes, Rave and House, are you shitting me, unfuckingbelievable.

dude, you need to listen to it more I guess…everybody loves it man…(which doesn’t mean you have to like it though)…

don’t worry Alec, Shivers is by far the best record you have done in the past 10 years. it so awesome it frightens me

the beats on Control Drug, Baby Skull and tot are pure genius. And I know because I am a DJ. the bass kicks are making the speakers burst.
Shivers rules big time man

Dear Alec,
I wanted you to know that I do think you are the best musician in music and I always will. I just was so hooked on your I and A look and sound I guess I thought it would never change and how could I think that I mean as I look at my discs limited editions 1990-94, hypermodern jazz 2000.5, generation starwars, les etoiles des filles mortes, low on ice, I + A cd2(I really love that one especially SUCTION man I love that and all the countless remixes you have done and your a dj it makes sense now, but I was acting in a selfish way I mean you are multi talented, and you should exercise that, I am sorry. At my worst moments I get selfish and say things I later regret. I have listened to shivers more and thats how much I am into you, I listen to it over and over finding something I like about it, Theres sounds and things in the recording I like,( i love arp 2600.) Well I just wanted you to know that I see what you are doing and I respect it very much. I am probably anguishing over this more than you are, I feel like I should not have said things like who the fuck am I to be so critical, thats why you are a great independent artist, becuase no record company is going to tell you what you can play, not me, not anyone.

Hey David,
thanks! I understand completely where you’re coming from. It’s all cool man… a lot of records that I have done only really work if you are in the mood for them, or open for them in that moment you know… It’s the same for me when I record the music.
If someone asks me to do a “hard” track, but I am not feeling it because I fell more like Low On Ice, then it just doesn’t make sense to try to record a “hard” song…I want to keep my music authentic and “real” (by that I mean that I don’t manipulate my music in order to win fans, or make them buy my music. I record music which expresses exactly how I feel and think at that moment).
I can only say that there will be extremely hard tracks coming in the future, also very weird ones…Nic and me have recorded so much material over the past year, we don’t even know how to release that without causing more confusion
I really appreciate criticism. Seriously…it doesn’t hurt me personally (some musicians take it very personal) – I love input from other people, negative, positive…with music there is no wrong or right after all. It’s just a matter of taste in my opinion.
I love the internet for that. When I started the only feedback was a few reviews in magazines, and sales numbers…maybe a conversation with someone after a show…not very constructive. Now we can really see the music having an effect out there. And that is so great!
all the best,
Alec
