ThinkSync Films launches its 4th annual short film competition on 1st December 2008
ThinkSync Films has established itself as bringing together the independent film and music industries in a unique and innovative way and after three successful years, it now launches its short film competition for the fourth time. Fifty tracks drawn from the catalogues of top independent labels and publishers such as 4AD, Asthmatic Kitty, Bella Union, Big Dada, Digital Hardcore, Catskills Records, Chemikal Underground, Mute Song, Ninja Tune, Rough Trade, Rotters? Golf Club, Saddlecreek, The Leaf Label, and Wichita are all made available to filmmakers from www.thinksyncfilms.com to use in their short films.
Filmmakers are asked to produce a film less than ten minutes long incorporating only music from the website. The competition is designed to search out, celebrate and reward creative new independent filmmaking talent, with particular attention to the role music plays. The music, detailed rules and FAQ’s are all available on the website, along with previous years’ shortlisted films.
The winning film is decided by a panel of renowned judges, all experts in their respective fields. Previous judges have included Iain Smith (Chairman of the Edinburgh International Film Festival), film director and producer team Anton Corbijn and Todd Eckert (Control), musicians Nitin Sawhney and Andrew Weatherall, and journalists of the calibre of Turner Prize judge Miranda Sawyer.
Previous winning and short-listed entries have featured luminaries such as Danny Dyer (Human Traffic, The Football Factory, The Business), Jo Hartley (This Is England), Joe Absolom (Eastenders), and Stirling Gallacher (The Office). ThinkSync?s winning films have gone on to win awards as diverse as the BBC3 Comedy Short and Film of the Year in the Milwaukee Film Festival. Winning directors have recently nominations and awards at the Raindance Film Festival, Channel Four and this year?s British Independent Film Awards.
Last year?s competition culminated in an event held during the 10th Rushes Soho Shorts Film Festival and was attended by over seven hundred professionals from the worlds of music, film, print, broadcast and advertising, who watched a screening of five finalists (selected from over 200 entries) before networking late into the night fuelled by the generosity of Budweiser and Gaymers.
This year ThinkSync Films enjoys the support of MySpace, Little White Lies, Shooting People, MTV2, Rushes Soho Shorts and The New Producer?s Alliance, along with many other esteemed media partners to be found on our website.
Closing date for entries to the 2009 Competition is 26th June 2009.
